Green Fox: Having already painted a version of this work in oils, I thought I’d have another go, this time in acrylics. Same Fox. Same palette. Same approach. Why? Because, despite everything appearing the same, the two mediums react differently to the brush. In turn, my style also has to change to get the most out of the paint. Besides, I enjoy a challenge!

The end results looked similar but, on balance, I think I prefer Green Fox in acrylics most, which is why you’re seeing this version and not the oil! I put that down to my familiarity with acrylics, as much as the ‘rightness’ of the composition. It begins with my signature flashes of unexpected colour in the Fox’s tail and the bold brush-strokes in its head. Then there’s that mint-green background with its abstract tones. It all works.
